We're Selling Our House!

In preparation for the sale my husband and I have been working diligently on getting the house “Show” ready. So what does that mean?

It means cleaning out our CRAP!

Here are 5 things you can do to prepare your home for sale that are either free or low cost!

De-Clutter Tackling the basement was our first project. Thankfully, I am the polar opposite of a hoarder. In fact, my husband yells at me for not holding onto things long enough. Yet, somehow we still wind up acquiring too much junk! If you don’t use it, don’t keep it!

Finish projects Take the time to complete those mini projects you planned to do months ago, like spackling the cracks and holes in the walls or finish the chalk wall you started.

Depersonalize and Neutralize Don’t have too many personal items around. It’s ok to have a few photos, but a buyer doesn’t want to see your kid’s trophies covering the mantel.

Also, keep in mind not everyone’s taste matches yours! I had an amazing green color on the walls of our dining room. While my friends and family grew to love it, the color was definitely not for everyone. We updated the paint to a softer more neutral gray.

Update the Space It can be as simple as switching out those raggedy old couch pillows for a new set. It’s amazing how fresh accents can completely change a room.

Swap the outdated brass doorknobs for a more modern piece of hardware. It will give your home an updated feel.

Paint Paint Paint! - fresh paint not only adds  brightness to the room it makes it look a lot cleaner. Don't just paint the walls - touch up the molding and doors too!

Make sure you are highlighting the home's true potential. Take some time to rearrange the furniture and closet area to enhance the amount of space. While you may love that stand up divider, it makes the room appear smaller and let’s face it that went out of style almost twenty years ago!

Curb Appeal Show off your green thumb and plant some flowers! Update your front porch/doorway. If you have the old wreath your Aunt gave you as a housewarming gift five years ago still hanging on your front door, switch it out for a new one! And, don’t forget the doormat while you’re at it.
